When you use the gear puller, put a small sacrificial bolt in the threaded splined shaft, something form the gear puller center to press against instead of the threaded portion. Any 60's or 70's triump/BSA/Norton has them.
I would get about a milimeter movement each time, and ultimately, the thing popped off the splines. Now fold open the lever as if you were going to kickstart the bike. I am trying to remove the kickstarter quadrant (or maybe considered the ratchet? Can anyone explain correct installation procedure with regards to spring and pin orientation with the lever? I agree 100% pleeeeeeeease do not pry against the case!!! the bicycle ones dont seem strong enough for kickstarters. I changed kick start levers for years without taking the side cover off, mostly because I didn't know you needed to. Next stop: Tool store for a small gear puller. Any help is apprectiated .

As a postscript to this thread: Once I conquered pulling the K/S lever, the rest of the job went very smoothly. I tried to use the frame as my fulcrum point...although I did use some parts of the case where it has compound bends (strongest), but never subjected it to anything worse than steady pressure....Used PB Blaster (like a super WD-40), but no luck there, either. Using the 3-inch puller, I hosed the shaft and lever splines down with penetrant, pulled a bit, backed off, re-centered the tool and pulled it again.
