The purpose of this experiment is to illustrate how well the current set of ships stacks up in the grand scheme of things, which might be a resource for players, but also serves to give insight to modders pertaining to how powerful their ships ought to be in order to avoid being too weak or too strong. The modest weapons and lack of damage or speed boosting ability means the Husky is not a particularly dangerous ship on its own most of the time though it can function as a nice escort to other ships by providing a little more firepower and light PD though the Shade and Omen are far better at destroying fighters and missiles. After all this time, it's outdated in some places. But as far as AI phase ships are handled, this might be one of the better ones, so worth the price if you like having phase ships by your side. Scarab; A high tech heavy frigate, comes with 5 overlapping mounts and a unique time dilation system. Sunder; The staple high tech destroyer. Notably I don't think Tech is broken or anything. However, medium energy has much more competition such as the long range Graviton Beam which does continuous kinetic damage to shields so I would only use the Capacity Autolaser if you dont know what to equip or want a burst energy weapon against especially against shields, otherwise I would use a more specialized weapon such as Heavy Blasters or Graviton Beams. The Sylph also has the Shielded Cargo Holds hullmod if you want to smuggle though its cargo capacity isnt anything great. Officers gain skills like the player, but only to a maximum level of 5 (6 with the "Officer Training" Leadership skill), which are chosen from a pool of 4 skills when they level up. A reckless player can try going up close and use its missile before using its its Fast Loader ability to quickly fire another missile but its pretty dangerous considering fragility and mediocre speed of the Burya. 401 // connection refused [try again?] Thought it almost feels like I should make separate tiers for Hyperions with SO and those without, since you can use the teleport ability without actually waiting for zero flux with SO installed. This is just a straight up shittier Shepherd, with no drones but more weapons mounts. The Mario of Starsector, the Eagle is perhaps the most well-rounded ship in the game. Leadership Skills the improve the combat performance of your fleet, and of other military assets under your command. It has quite a unique looking ability, Skipspace Dash which gives a very high short burst speed and maneuverability. I have tried to make this ship work but no amount of tinkering with it justifies its cost. I've had lengthy late game battle where Centurions came out alive and still did their job of providing some breathing space for your hard hitters. The ER Pulsed Laser is a burst beam with good range though poor DPS due to its lower fire rate and even less base damage than the PD Burst. Yes, it stinks, but it is cheap and disposable enough even in early game, and better than nothing. Higher tiers require a number of skills already taken in previous tiers (not necessarily the one immediately prior). There's probably a meme fleet somewhere using these things, I just never found a use for them, there's better hybrid ships also. Stay away from this toy gun. The Kobra Mk. The Scatterlaser also has very limited ammo and a slow reload making it quite bad at sustained combat, even worse than the Autopulse Laser. Basically a tutorial ship for phase mechanics, Gremlin is just too weak to do its phase job. Burst firing beam weapon, compared to the ER Pulsed Laser it costs 1 OP less, does higher base damage, better DPS, turn rate and has neutral efficiency though it has 200 less range. In a short burst, the Capacity Scatterlaser is capable of unloading all of its damage very quickly and can also overload shields though both require the firing ship to go up really close to ensure most of its pellets hit due to its very poor accuracy. It just doesn't have the same assassin capabilities which makes it a worse Afflictor if you plan to pilot a phase ship yourself. Skills that improve the performance of your fleet in and out of combat. Guaranteed to draw off at least a few cruisers while your forces flank them. Aside from that, Hound and Cerberus are primarily freighters without the Civilian-Grade hull that blocks Safety Override. Tech wins pretty handily. Monitor is a ship that breaks the game, hard. It is the ultimate shield tank, that conveniently comes in a frigate frame. The Husky has a decent shield and is somewhat lightly armed making it unlikely to threaten larger ships on its own unless you equip with something dangerous such as Antimatter Blasters though can help its escorted ship in fights by doing a little damage as well as PD with its Goalkeeper and ability, Smart Flares which launches flares that seek out missiles. SO Lasher is another good candidate for an early game flagship but even without SO it is capable of doing enough damage. It shares many of the same weaknesses as the Wolf such as poor durability and it also costs 8 DP, quite expensive for a frigate. I agree it's the best built tree. Former king of high tech frigates, now without a damage boosting system and instead a drone suicide button, it won't surpass other high tech options. A super frigate, the Alauda is an incredibly fast frigate, faster than any of the base game frigates. -Glory Road, Heinlein. Vigilance; Has medium missile and energy mount, otherwise unexceptional, needs work to shine. Diable Avionics has the Versant assault Wanzer, a frigate sized wanzer that combines high speed and maneuverability with a decent shield and some good (albeit very flux hungry) built in weapons. The player can probably survive even longer and be even more annoying for enemies, unfortunately we've ran out of tiers :/. 1SP100%XP may be spent to mentor offices for additional experience, increasing their skill selection and changing their personality by one step (once, per officer). At least that is how the official histories tell it. The Hybrid Blasters decent firerate means it can somewhat proc it decently meaning it can potentially deal more damage but the chance to proc it isnt that high. Even in battle, I do not mind a D-mod or two on a Tempest when cleaning up a Lumen and Glimmer duo that insists on fighting my vastly superior fleet. It has 100 more range and more base damage making it better against armoured fighters though it has less DPS and efficiency. Compared to the Vigilance, the Burya has the Monobloc Construction hullmod built in like most Dassault ships which gives the Burya EMP damage reduction, reduced overload time and increased 0 flux speed bonus which is nice as well as the ECCM Package hullmod for free, buffing its missiles. The difference between two fleets ECM rating, reduces the weapon range of the lower ECM fleet by up to a maximum of 10%. Officers at max level can be retrained for 1SP100%XP to change their elite skills and their personality. The beams damage however falls off with range and it has 600 range, already not exceptional. A bit expensive though. I won't say no but don't hold your breath. But having a wing of Borer drones orbiting it means there's always going to be some damage dealt to nearby enemy ships. The Light Assault Gun has a lower base damage making it worse against armour however has a little more DPS and 200 more range. Shade; A good phase ship with a EMP system.
